GUYS LOOK AT THIS.
I know it’s sad that this is considered “revolutionary” but seriously this is so so so important. Look at what Aerie style and fit expert Jenny Altman said in an interview with ABC News: “We left everything: beauty marks, tattoos. It’s a selling point because our customers represent this great demographic and they don’t get to see what girls their age really look like.” The brand also plans to enhance its website. Soon, when you search for a DD bra, you’ll see an actual, real-live DD-sized woman wearing it. Sort of sad that this feels so revolutionary, but anything that diversifies that headless, B-cup avatar common to most lingerie sites is okay in our book.
but let me guess - slender white women with basically flawless skin on their website?? rly gives me an idea of how i’ll look in that bra obv.
"no supermodels..just really conventionally attractive white chix." I will add that its an excellent start and maybe one day we wont have to look at as many untouched photos which is superb and i certainly won’t overlook that aspect of it, but!! you also have to admit that this still has the potential to be just as dangerous as looking at airbrushed photos, it still reinforces the same standards as those images and i can only imagine how POC feel looking at this. it may challenge supermodel and magazine standards but it does not combat beauty standards overall and i guess i feel like if you’re going to do something like this you should go big or go home. they’re still models, u feel me?
Seriously, these girls are all THIN and WHITE and BLEMISH FREE, you’re not eradicating beauty standards, you’re upholding them! Who fucking cares if you didn’t airbrush their freckles or contour their bodies, you still chose thin. white. pretty. girls. Aerie hasn’t done SHIT other than make you people fall for a bogus ad campaign.
Does no one see the black girl in the top left picture? these girls are not thin they look healthy. You can see the curves on their stomachs, there are models who have big boobs and armpit fat. This is just the beginning they said they will have actual models who are DDs in the future. They may now show size 12 girls here but hopefully they will. People are so used to seeing the skinny A cup models and maybe American Eagle want to gradually add models who are not small so people can accept it. You can’t shove something in peoples faces and say “LIKE IT BECAUSE THIS IS ALSO BEAUTIFUL” I wish we could but we have lived in this society for so long its great that we are started to accept everyone. Maybe as a person who is considered petite I don’t understand, but I think you should praise American Eagle for doing this. I could be wrong but this is just my opinion
Ok I actually went on the website and they have sizes up to 40 DD and they have a model who is not touched up wearing p>
